Those aged 66 or over and students benefit from concession pricing. This is available when booking in advance or on the day of racing. Wetherby Racecourse offers racegoers a choice of enclosures; each offering something different but all offer facilities for the disabled, baby-changing, tote and bookmakers*, race programmes sales and refreshments. A large screen that can be viewed from all enclosures is on site for every meeting.
The first thing you need to do is decide which enclosure you want to be in. Enclosure transfers from Paddock to Premier are usually available on the day, but not if we have sold out on Premier on advance sales, which is generally only on our Feature Plus racedays.
For the more discerning racegoer, the Premier Enclosure offers racegoers access to the spectacular Wetherby Millennium Stand, as well as to covered elevated seating in the Grandstand directly opposite the winning post. When you purchase your Premier admission you will be given a Racing Badge which provides you access to the Racecourse and the Premier Enclosure facilities which include:
The Marston Moor Bar ** The White Horse Mezzanine Bar ** The White Rose Restaurant ** The Millennium Grandstand
The 1891 Bar within the Millennium West Stand, is, on selected racedays also a Premier facility. This bar however does have access restrictions on selected racedays throughout the season*. If your visit is dependent on this bar being available to you as a Premier Racegoer, we advise that you contact us before you book.
Premier Enclosure racegoers can also access all of the Paddock and Course facilities.
Situated in the heart of the Racecourse, the Paddock Enclosure is where all the action happens! Paddock Enclosure admission provides a ticket which allows access to the Racecourse and Paddock enclosure facilities which include the Henry Crossley Suite in the new Millennium West Grandstand, The Bramham Hall Bar and Bistro, the Paddock Bar and the Bramham Grandstand which offers a sheltered spot to watch the racing. The facilities in the Paddock Enclosure are all situated on a ground floor level.
Paddock Enclosure racegoers can also visit the pre-Parade Ring and Parade Ring to pick their fancy, and watch from the rails as they fly over the last and stand to applaud and watch the presentations from the Winners’ Enclosure. On our Feature Plus racedays Marquee facilities are also open with additional pop-up bars and catering outlets. Paddock racegoers can also access the Course Enclosure facilities should they wish to do so or upgrade to the Premier Enclosure, subject to availability, on the day.
Situated in the centre of the racetrack itself, the Course Enclosure offers a great day out for those racegoers with limited budgets. It offers views of the final furlong as well as catering and betting facilities. There is also a small child’s play area and acres of grass for the kids to run around in.
Access to the Course Enclosure is either via the turnstiles or those Racegoers who want to take their cars closer to the action can do so by coming in through the ‘Cars to Course’ entrance and parking in the Centre of Course car park. Racegoers are welcome to bring picnics into the Centre of Course Enclosure. Racegoers within the Course Enclosure can transfer to the Paddock Enclosure on the day.
*Tote betting is available within this enclosure at every meeting. Bookmakers are in attendance on the majority of our racedays but we cannot guarantee attendance on our quieter days within the Centre of Course Enclosure.
If you are a new racegoer please see our step by step guide below on how to book, which enclosure to book for, what to wear and how to place a bet; basically everything you will need to know to ensure you have a great day. Before you know it you will be a regular!
Quite often your decision will be date led. You will have some free time and will simply choose the raceday that is taking place around that time. Otherwise you may want to try coming to a specific fixture, such as Medieval Raceday, Family Day or Ladies’ Evening, where there is often something else going on besides the racing that may interest you or to one of our highlight and busy racedays such as the traditional Yorkshire Christmas Meeting. The choice is obviously yours and a full list of fixtures is available on this website.
Our racing fixtures are split into categories, Standard racedays tend to be our mid-week fixtures, Feature racedays include the majority of our Saturdays and some of our themed meetings such as Ladies’ Evening and Family Day, and our Feature Plus fixtures are our busiest racedays, bet365 Charlie Hall Saturday, and both days of the Christmas Meeting. Our admission pricing varys according to the raceday category.
Take a look at our more detailed enclosures information and decide which enclosure you feel suits you best. We would suggest that to experience the real atmosphere of a raceday and get close to the action you need to be in the Paddock or Premier Enclosures, and remember you can also upgrade on the day (subject to availability) if you need to.
Booking in advance offers you a better admission price than if you were to purchase your admission on the turnstiles on the day of racing. Our racegoer packages are only available on advance booking, however, general Paddock and Premier admission may be available at the turnstiles on the day of racing. On our Feature Plus racedays, we can sell-out of Premier admission in advance and some Feature Plus days may sell out on the day, so pre-booking for these meetings is advised. The website will always be updated to let you know the status of ticket sales for upcoming meetings. All of our advance admissions and packages are administered by E-Ticket, so you will require an email and the ability to print out your tickets.
Wetherby do not operate a formal dress code within any of our enclosures. As a Racecourse which operate mainly through the winter months we advise that you dress for the weather and wear whatever you feel comfortable in. The majority of our enclosure areas are not on grass, so suitable for all forms of footwear.
Our late spring and summer meetings and warmer weather offer that excuse to dress to impress especially so on Ladies’ Evening which offers prizes for the best outfit and best hat.
Parking is FREE at Wetherby Racecourse and you do not need any form of parking pass on the day. The majority of our parking is on grass. Top Tip: Ladies’ ask the gents to drop you off on the roadway in inclement weather.
Full information about how to find us and how to get to us are within the ‘Tother Stuff’ section of our website. This page also includes information on our FREE shuttle bus service between Wetherby Town Centre and the Racecourse that we operate on our Feature and Feature Plus racedays.
Before each race the horses are led out of the stables and into the pre-parade ring, where they are saddled in view of the public. They are then walked into the Parade Ring, where you can watch them and pick out your selection. The owners of the horses also gather here, together with their trainer who will issue final instructions to the jockey before they mount and leave to go down to the start.
The winner and placed horses of each race will return to this area, where the winners’ trophy is then presented.
You don’t need to be a racing expert to place a winning bet; often a bit of luck is all you need.
What you do need to do is select a horse. You can do this by studying the Racecard. The racecard is a programme of the day’s events, detailing all of the races and listing the runners in an easy to read format, providing information about their ‘form’ , the information and facts about each horse’s past perfomances. There is even a section showing you how to read the racecard and how to place a bet.
Our Tipster ‘Wetherbee’ also provides you with his ‘stinging selection’ on each race. Take your racecard down to the Parade Ring and study each horse as they walk past and pick the one you fancy the most!
Racecards are available to purchase on the day in each of our enclosures at a cost of £2.50 each. Or you can save money and pre-order your racecard when you purchase admission in advance. You will be sent a voucher that you redeem on the day.
Don’t be daunted if you have never placed a bet before – it really is not as complicated as you might think. At Wetherby you can either place your bets with the Tote (Pool Betting) or with the Bookmakers (Fixed Odds Betting).
The Tote is available on-course and is a pool betting service (like a lottery). This means that for each race, all the money for the different bet types are put into one pool and then shared out amongst the winners after each race.
Your betting on the racecourse with the Tote supports racing, with the majority of revenues flowing back to that racecourse.
There are several bet types available with the Tote such as win, place, each way (win and a place bet) and an exacta (picking the first two in the correct order).
One of the most famous tote bets is the placepot which rewards customers who can pick a horse to place in each of the first 6 races. The average dividend of the Placepot is over £454* to a £1 stake so it is a fun bet where you can a large amount for a small stake. (*for the 12 months leading to October 2018)
The Tote has a minimum bet of just £2 and accepts cash and card across all courses making it one of the most convenient ways to place a bet on-course with large payouts available for relatively small stakes
You also have the option to place a ‘Lucky Pick’ bet, which is similar to the lucky dip on the National Lottery. However, the Lucky Pick is designed to be smarter than a random lucky dip as it uses a special formula which is weighted towards the more likely outcomes in an event.
Whatever way you make your selection- by choosing your favourite jockey silks or studying form, there are plenty of betting options and the friendly Tote team are always on hand to help with your selections.
Accompanied children aged 17 and under are admitted to all of our enclosures completely free of charge but you will need to book a complimentary child admission ticket when booking in advance. Children are charged on packages which include hospitality, food and/or reserved areas and child pricing will be displayed where applicable. Click here to find out more.

This discount is available on advance booking and at the turnstiles on the day of racing. Students will be asked to show a valid photographic student or NUS Card upon entry to the Racecourse.
