BHS Northern Charity Race 2024

We are delighted to welcome Jockeys, members and supporters of the British Horse Society back to Wetherby on Friday 1st November for their 4th Annual Northern Charity Race.

Ahead of the official race programme, the BHS brave equestrians, will mount-up in the Wetherby Parade Ring and ride onto the hallowed turf to compete in a flat race over about 1m.  All have been training hard for this opportunity of a lifetime, learning to race-ride, and fitting training and riding out between their normal ‘day jobs’.

Following the charity race, will be a delicious lunch with some amazing auction prizes and more cracking racing!

The British Horse Society

The British Horse Society was founded in 1947, and has grown over the past 70 years to become the largest and most influential equestrian charity in the UK with over 119,000  members.

The British Horse Society is a registered charity – numbers 210504 and SC038516 – and its activities are overseen by the Charity Commission.

The primary objectives of the British Horse Society, as published in the Constitution, are:

  • To promote and advance the education, training and safety of the public in all matters relating to the horse.
  • To promote the use, breeding, well-being, safety, environment, health and management of the horse for the public benefit.
  • To promote community participation in healthy recreation involving the horse.
  • To promote and facilitate the prevention of cruelty, neglect or harm to horses and to promote the relief, safety, sanctuary, rescue and welfare of horses in need of care, attention and assistance.

Hospitality Marquee

The BHS Hospitality Marquee is located in the heart of the action, amidst the hub of the Paddock, adjacent to the Parade Ring & Winner’s Enclosure.

The marquee is fully heated and has private tote betting, Racecourse TV, and private bar facilities.  The main betting ring is located less than 100 metres away, as is the covered Bramham Grandstand, offering an elevated view of the racing action.

The Marquee will be hosted by BHS staff and volunteers and is open to all to book.  However, it will predominantly be filled with members of the BHS and supporters of the charity race jockeys and a charity auction and fundraising activities will take place during the day.

Private tables of 8-12 (or grouped tables for larger parties); smaller parties may be seated on shared ‘Connections Tables’.

The BHS marquee package is priced at £75.00 per person and includes:

  • Racecourse Paddock Admission plus exclusive access to the BHS Hospitality Marquee
  • Race Programme
  • Charity Auction
  • Two-Course Luncheon Menu followed by Coffee
  • Six-action packed National Hunt Races
  • Reserved parking (bookings of 10 or more)

Bookings of 1-9 tickets will be administered by E-Ticket which will be automatically emailed at the time of ordering.  Guests are to park in our free public parking and make their way to the designated turnstile where their E-Ticket will be scanned, and they will be provided with a Hospitality Marquee Badge for onward entry.  Further information about the day, including confirmed timings and menu, will be emailed to guests approximately 2 weeks prior to the event.

Bookings of 10 or more tickets will be administered by Package Post Out, Guests will receive an automated booking confirmation at the time of ordering, and tickets, badges, itinerary and Reserved ‘B’ Car Park permits (1 per 4 guests) will be sent via post approximately 3 weeks prior to the event date.

Child pricing :

0-3yrs Free of charge(A ticket is still required to be booked) | 4-10yrs £29.25  |  11-17yrs £44.00

Pricing is inclusive of VAT.   A 50p per ticket booking fee is applicable to a maximum of 24 tickets (£12.00).  Booking fee is not applied to FOC tickets.

Children aged 4-10 will be provided with a half portion of the BHS Menu.  Children aged 11-17 yrs receive an adult portion.

If you would prefer a more ‘child friendly’ menu, please contact us at least 72 working hours prior to the event.

Menu & Itinerary

Please note that timings may be subject to amend.  Guests will receive a confirmed itinerary approximately 3 weeks prior to the event.

The BHS Hospitality Marquee will open from 10.30am and the bar facility will be open from this time and will also offer tea/coffee.

Card Payment is preferred across the Racecourse but cash is also taken.

The BHS Charity Race will be held at approximately 11.20am.

After the charity race, the first official race on the card will commence at 12.40pm, after which guests will be asked to be seated for lunch which will be served at approximately 1.00pm.

A Charity Auction will take place during dessert & coffee.

First Official Race at TBC | Last Race at TBC | Bar Closes 1 hour after the last race

Please note that race timings may be subject to change.  A revised itinerary will be sent out with tickets approximately 3 weeks prior to the raceday.
